Chapter 52

Last-ditch Effort

Zong Yuan watched brother Wei and the guy called Tiang Fu fight each other. Like two alpha predators in a jungle, they taunted and attacked each other with a ferocity that didn’t match their looks. They seemed like old enemies with a deep grudge against each other, seeking each other’s blood.

Especially brother Wei. His bloodshot eyes and quivering arms told a long story. A story where the tall guy had done something despicable to brother Wei.

It could be the opposite as well. He had heard from the conversation that brother Wei’s real name was Li Wei, and not Wei Lin, as he’d told Zong Yuan. But the impression brother Wei left on him was deep. In their fights against the scorpions, three times he had missed the target and gotten himself surrounded by five or six scorpions without a path of retreat, but brother Wei had leaped in like a vicious god and fought those beasts off to help him. It was just a day of brotherhood, but a brotherhood fought on the line of life and death. So, he preferred to believe in brother Wei’s body language rather than the claims of the foreigner.

Ignoring them, he focused on the girl who looked young but her scent told him otherwise. She must practice some weird cultivation art, because scent didn’t lie. She looked ten to twelve years old, but her scent betrayed her real age, and he bet she was at least twenty or more. But that wasn’t the main thing. She smelled like his brothers. The princes of Azure Dragon Province. With his body cultivation, specializing in long range attacks, he had powerful senses, and he couldn’t forget the smells of his brothers, Zong Lin and Zong Wun. It seemed like this couple had met them, and if they had met them and yet survived, then this couple was strong.

A lot stronger than them, which was clear by the way Tiang Fu had crushed brother Wei’s attacks.

“Pretty girl, did you meet two madmen on the road? Did you kill them?” he asked the girl.

Viciousness flashed in the girl’s eyes, as if she knew what he meant. “Do you know them?”

Zong Yuan shrugged, his heart flipping inside. “No. I saw them killing another pair, so I asked.” These two must have met his brothers and yet they survived, and that meant these two shouldn’t be trifled with. With a complex gaze, he watched brother Wei charging ahead with his fist. What was he trying to do here? Wasn’t his strongest attack the blood sword attack? Why was he punching? Did he hide another powerful skill?

Suddenly an illusionary nine-headed bird floated above brother Wei’s head, and his body floated in the air without his wings. The birds wailed like resentful spirits wailing from the depths of hell.

Zong Yuan grabbed his ears, but the sound penetrated through his flesh and poked at his soul. A thick warm liquid washed over his palms, and when he opened his eyes, he realized blood oozed out of his ears and eyes.
